Flagship Product of Studio Lucifer

De uitdaging

Studio Lucifer aims to design lamps and shape meaningful light by using its true potential. Little is known about the true potential of light to the average consumer, but light has a large impact on their lives. It not only affects the way people perceive their surroundings but also has a huge physiological and biological impact. We want to improve the consumer’s life by ‘unlocking’ this potential through products that provide quality lighting and innovative interactions. By allowing the user to experience the power of quality light we aim to mediate their opinion on the value of light.

At the moment the dominant way of interacting with light is through a button. The newest revolutions in lighting do not succeed in avoiding the clumsyness of an app or GUI. Current desk lighting is restrictive as it usually only has a single setting with very little control for the users.

De oplossing

The flagship product that is in development embodies the company’s mission statement. It emits high quality lighting (CRI 90>, 3000> Lumen, 3000k-6500k) and allows the user to create the lighting situation that feels right. Through an innovative but simple to use interaction the user has full control over the light. The intensity and colour temperature can be controlled through touch sliders on top of the product. The physical orientation of the product is easily adjusted due to the swivel head and balanced arm. Everything is designed with simplicity in mind but still allows for mastery through experience.

Nice idea, but much prior art is available in this field (lighting itself, but also interacting with lights and other devices). Therefore, it is not certain whether it may be patentable, but worthwhile to check (www. Espacenet. Com).

@frank steeghs we know from existing research that light can make people more comfortable/less comfortable, sleepy/alert, more honest/less honest. The research (conducted by others) is one of the cornerstones of the concept of this product.

There has been a lot of research about “the power of light” and yet comparable daylight systems (or even wellness systems) are not that widespread. If you can find out why, then you have a case in my opinion.

In what type of situations would you want to test your prototypes? Which use case benefits the most (i. e. What is your unique selling point compared to currently available solutions)? I think you should sort this out and collect user feedback.

Great idea did you do some research about subject. I believe i heard about an earlier project where the light 'temperature' changes regarding the time and type of meeting. May be my colleagues from product development can recall this.

In our printing environment we use specially designed lighting rooms to view prints, these are usually for one specific lighting condition. A professional solution that could create different natural light settings would be very helpful.
