Taking initiative as a student pays off, evidently. Former students, Janahvi and Avinash, took part in the TU/e Contest and have since developed into true enterprising engineers. Both grabbed a spot in the contest’s finals, and shortly after were offered a job at BRACE Automotive, a business unit of ACE engineering.

This year, the third edition of the TU/e Contest will be taking place. During this stimulating contest, enterprising students will develop an innovative concept or product. The students will be professionally guided by several reputable companies.

What does the technical industry expect from young professionals?

Janahvi and Avinash took part in several chat sessions, training and workshops during the contest, in which they received feedback from TU/e Contest partners like ACE Engineering,  V.O. Patents & Trademarks, ASML, Medtronic, Ministry of Defence and InnoEnergy. This way, students will meet the expectations of the industry at an early stage. Janahvi: ''Creating a beautiful and innovative product is not enough, you have to arouse interest among investors or customers.”

Janahvi developed the 'Airometer'

During the TU/e Contest, Janahvi developed an instrument to measure air pollution. Air pollution is a major problem in countries like China and India. Janahvi would like to make the population aware of their polluted environment. The 'Airometer' shows the degree of air pollution through a handy device, that is connected to your smart phone.

Because of her experience at the TU/e Contest, Janahvi learned to pitch: ''I was so nervous during the 'one minute pitch' in the finals, but afterwards I felt really relieved and enjoyed the pitches of the other finalists, which was educational as well.’’

Through her participation in the TU/e Contest, Janahvi came in contact with ACE. At the moment, she is writing her master’s thesis for BRACE Automotive, a business unit of ACE.

Avinash also got in touch with ACE through the TU/e Contest. Avinash developed the concept 'Wingman'; an online platform to bring people together.

During the workshop days Avinash was coached by Frank Steeghs, senior account manager at ACE High-tech systems. Avinash: ''Frank contributed significantly to my concept and put me in touch with the right people. Shortly after the contest, I finished my master’s degree and was lucky enough to be offered an internship at ACE. I was part of the development team of the TURTLE-5k soccer robot.’’

Avinash currently works as an engineer at ACE.
