CHET - Adding intelligence to the PE environment

The challenge

Our mission is to innovate the educational system. This project is focussed on innovating the PE lessons. Many children feel excluded in the PE lessons and are not motivated to move; our challenge was to change this phenomenon. The project started January 2016.

The prototypes are finished and the TU/e has bought them for research purposes; they are being used by Industrial Design bachelor students. So far, no implications for future work have been made.

The solution

Chet is an interactive connected system of PE objects that allows teachers to simply create a great variety of games via a mobile application. Moreover, it strives to make the PE lessons attractive and inclusive for all students. Besides player VS player interaction, it also offers the opportunity to play against 'the (smart) system'. This enables students to work together instead of battling each other. Furthermore, it's build-in algorithms increase the level of difficulty for winning teams, so that the chances to win for 'less good' teams are becoming bigger.

We haven't been able to go that far yet benjamin, but we have made a calculation of what materials, molds and electronics we need. At this moment, the three of us are in our graduation year which gives us little time to work on past projects.

Cool product, there is a big drive to make the gym-classes more interactive with technology! Is there already a clear view on the pricing of the product, both hardware and apps?

Exactly! That would be great. The use of technology and other 21st century skills as bridge between subjects, enabling everyone to strengthen the team with those aspects they are good at.

Nice idea, if difficult algorithms can be added the geek can become the hero in the pe class!
