A.I.M. (Approachable, Innovative, Motivating)

The challenge

A.I.M. is a new device to be used during PE classes and stands for Approachable Interactive and Motivating. A.I.M. tackles the less positive feeling of a bench by adding a playful feel, the feel of the mat, as the wooden seat is replaced by a mat.

Due to our vision, we wanted to design a bench which allows children to play freely which is why we added side panels. These panels are attached to the seat and can be opened in order to expand the surface. A.I.M. can be used in three different positions. We integrated touch sensors and LEDs in the surface. These electronics allow the user to play games with A.I.M., games that motivate different sports characters in order to prevent social exclusion.

The solution

A.I.M. is a new device to be used during PE classes and motivates different sports characters in order to prevent social exclusion. A.I.M. is a bench with a mat as seat which can be widened by opening side panels. Touch sensors and LEDs allow children with different sports characters to play games on A.I.M. and collaborate in order to achieve a goal. This project was executed by five second year students of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology over a span of 13 weeks, with the help of experts within the physical education.

Great execution of the idea but i have difficulty to understand what drove the shape of the a. i. m. Maybe a more modular design would increase the possibilities of use.

This could be fun! Patenting may be difficult but perhaps a model registration could be used to protect the look.

Have you compared your solution with the nebula wall of nyoyn?

Leuk idee, ik denk als je de hardware goed voor elkaar hebt dan zijn toepassingen eindeloos en kun je er constant nieuwe spellen voor bedenken. Mochten jullie een keer willen sparren dan willen wij daar best in mee denken.

I like the idea. Its fun to see something light up, when you hit it. A child likes to light up the whole display that way. I think this concept has potential, but needs to be thought out a bit more.

Very nice idea. It looks like an electronic version of twister. Has the potential to be easily adopted as it is intuitive and joyful. It is also a bridge between pf hysical exercise and computer games

Misschien dat je ook kan uitleggen wat de pe les precies inhoud. Wat voor iemand van buiten de tu/e is dit wellicht een onbekend begrip.
